When did you stop using bank checks?  Depending on how long you’ve stopped and how many checks you issue every month, it usually represents a large amount of savings.  In fact, getting your checks directly from the printer probably saves you hundred, if not thousands, of dollars a year.

If you have the time, do the calculations.  You might end up pleasantly surprised.

Personally, I originally stopped getting checks from the bank because I couldn’t make the time.  I am in the office during working hours, so I just can’t fit that activity into my schedule anytime I need to.

While my reason for quitting bank-issued checks was the absolute inconvenience of it, I have since abandoned them entirely due to other things.  You see, with personal checks, I am able to place an order anytime I need them, regardless of what odd time I realize I’m out.  I also like to outfit my checks with some marketing bits for my business, allowing it to double as a highly personal marketing tool.  With those added bonuses, I just can’t see a reason to go back to using bank checks again.

Do you have personal beliefs that you want to further?  If you want to help spread the word in living green or organic gardening, for instance, you can use personal checks as a platform to broaden people’s awareness.  For instance, I’ve seen many checks during the last year printed with reminders about ecological issues.  I’ve also seen some that encouraged starting a community garden, along with some brief information about how to find more information on it.

When you use recycled personalized checks, you save on innumerable amounts of natural resources, from the many trees that get cut down to all the water, electricity and chemicals that are used up in order to turn timber into a fresh clean sheet of paper.  Even better, you are supporting the recycling industry, which will allow it to grow even further into the future.  Oh, yeah, recycled paper is cheaper too, allowing you to get a good price even without personal checks coupon codes.

Many online check companies offer a variety of paper options for printing your personal check orders.  Since there’s really little reason to have checks that are especially soft and luxurious, recycled MICR bond paper will often do for most people’s needs.  If your printer doesn’t give you a choice of using recycled paper, either contact them (they usually have the option available) or start working with another company.

Doing things for the environment may be difficult to turn into a priority for many of us, whose lives often revolve around our work and our families.   Using recycled personal checks may not be as overwhelming as stopping a boatload of toxic waste from being dumped in the sea.  However, it’s little things like these that add up to help our environment the most.

Not that it’s bad, though.  Checks are intended for economic exchanges and don’t require much else to be legal drafts.  As such, many consumers take no issue with bank checks that you can’t tell apart from each other – they do what they’re supposed to, after all.

For some folks, however, generic bank checks may prove a little bit lacking.  Since each one simply resembles the next, they add no joy to the process of using them.  Can you imagine signing 50 of post-dated checks one after the other, having to stare at that boring design over and over?    I’ve done it a number of times and I’m usually bored before I even get past a dozen.

That’s why I find personalized checks to be indispensable.  Instead of just going through the motions bored out of my wits, issuing those post-dated checks actually turn into a playful experience.  A month ago, for instance, I needed to issue 36 checks.  I took twelve each from my personal Disney checks, Good Luck checks and 50s Pin Up checks collection.  While it didn’t a single thing about the fact that I was writing out checks over and over, my spirits stayed up the whole time and I finished it without taking a break – something I’ve never experienced when dealing with generic bank sheets.

Why bother with a personalized check?  Let me count the ways.

1. Ugly, bland and generally boring bank checks cost pretty much the same as a personalized check from an online printer. You don’t save any money when you go with the inferior product, so why do it?

2. Instead of requiring you to waste time transacting with the bank for a set, you can order personal checks online at any ungodly hour and have them delivered to your home.  There’s no hurry and no hassle, with everything done at your convenience.

3. Since ordering a set bearing your company’s likeness doesn’t cost much more than regular bank checks, it’s essentially free marketing you’re not taking advantage of.  What serious business would waste an opportunity like that?

4. It’s a great way to get your kids interested in personal finance.  It’s difficult enough to get kids to do their homework, let alone pay even an iota of attention to financial matters.  A personalized check with their favorite designs emblazoned across the sheets might just make it entertaining for them.

Money. What better symbol of financial prosperity is there than pictures of bills?  At the least, it’s a fitting design – images of financial instrument on another financial instrument.  At best, you can feel like you’ve got a whole booklet of cash in your pocket.

Horseshoe. The “U” shape (as with the similarly-shaped half-circle and crescent) is a symbol of good luck in many cultures.  For many folks, it welcomes good fortune while warding off evil

Rabbit’s Foot. As it turns out, some people actually still carry a rabbit’s foot (or hare’s foot, as with the original custom) in their person to invite favorable outcomes.  If you’d rather not carry a real animal’s appendage in your pocket, you can have one printed on your personalized checkbook covers and checks to help attract positive results.

Four-Leaf Clover. Designer checks can make memorable gifts.  As long as you keep it personal and meaningful to the receiver, there’s no doubt they’re going to appreciate it.

Graduation gifts. For new graduates, how about starting them on the road financial independence with checks that depict money?  Also popular as gifts for young adults are checks with cars, music and sports themes.  How about ordering a batch to make their entry into the workforce a cheerful one?

My wife, however, began to develop an affinity for them.  In fact, she ordered several booklets worth of checks with flowers, birds and various other “girly” stuff as its main design.  When they arrived at our house, I looked at her with the same quizzical expression I gave to people who issued their designer checks to me.  She just giggled and went about her merry way.

That same night, I got about 10 booklets of checks stacked on my desk at home.  Horror of horrors – the wife got some for me too!  I cringed at the thought at what she had emblazoned on actual financial instruments with my name on it, so I opened it cautiously.
