While that may be true for traditional companies, many modern businesses can benefit from deviating a little off the well-traveled path.  If you run a fun business, like a magazine publication, a pet store or an event organizing service, using a more unconventional check design is not only appropriate, but may actually be more fitting.

Do you supply animations for media companies?  It would totally look awesome having some of your most prominent characters featured on those check faces.  If your operate a business that has to do with pets, than pack in photos of dogs and cats into your personalized checks.  Make those checks fun, with colors, patterns and backgrounds that represent how your business presents its service to the world.

If the rest of your printed marketing materials feature a fun theme, it’s only apt to employ the same on your personal checks.  Do your business cards and presentation folders come in striking bold colors that represent your organization’s feisty personality?  Bring the same character into your personal checks and let it speak your language.  Your business is fun, so let everything that has to do with it reflect that!

My wife, however, began to develop an affinity for them.  In fact, she ordered several booklets worth of checks with flowers, birds and various other “girly” stuff as its main design.  When they arrived at our house, I looked at her with the same quizzical expression I gave to people who issued their designer checks to me.  She just giggled and went about her merry way.

That same night, I got about 10 booklets of checks stacked on my desk at home.  Horror of horrors – the wife got some for me too!  I cringed at the thought at what she had emblazoned on actual financial instruments with my name on it, so I opened it cautiously.

I was expecting something lame that will make me the butt of jokes, like a Barbie or bunnies or another similar design.  To my surprise, though, it had a print of one of my favorite paintings – the same one we have hanging in our living room.  It’s the same painting that makes me smile every time I take a look at it and it was now in my checks.

That’s when I realized how great of an idea personalized designer checks are – they can literally make you smile every time you issue a payment.  Since then, I’ve been ordering the same designs every time I run out of checks.  Of course, I ordered the same design on a personalized checkbook cover!
